Joanne’s Volunteering & Community Commitments

Joanne is dedicated to the community she serves in as she is in her personal and business commitments.

This year Joanne Ennis is co-heading the 13th Annual Realtor Care Blanket Drive for the communities of Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton.  This is Joanne’s 3rd year as coordinator and the 6th year for the Realtor Care Blanket Drive in the Sea-to-Sky Corridor.

“Being a part of the Blanket Drive is the right thing to do and the best way we could give back to our community. It is a the heartfelt truth when homelessness has become so prevalent in our very backyard. Sadly, homelessness is active in every community within the Sea to Sky corridor and the response has been phenomenal.  People have donated blankets, jackets, sweaters, gloves, individual packages of new toiletries, handmade mitts and hats. It’s just amazing how our communities have responded!  We are overwhelmed at the generosity and we want to express our gratefulness for everyone’s donations. Last year almost 140 bags were collected for the entire Sea-to-Sky Corridor. This year alone, our office (Black Tusk Realty) wish to reach over 150 bags and we are anticipating 250 bags plus for the corridor.”

It’s that time again, as we approach this year’s drive from November 26th to December 3rd!!!

Joanne is in the business of helping people sell and buy homes, and the Realtor Care Blanket Drive is a way of giving back to her community, helping those less fortunate.

Joanne’s highlight is personally delivering all the donations to the service groups servicing those in need.

The Blanket Drive initiative originated in the Vancouver East division, “Even in tough times, the [Vancouver East] division’s ongoing community service programs continued to achieve notable success in 1995.  In December of 1995, our Blanket Drive for the homeless received phenomenal response, with over 1400 blankets and other needed items collected and distributed by realtor volunteers.  Praise and thanks go to division vice-president Don Mackay who conceived the idea, chaired the organizing committee and gave many hours of labour in seeing the Drive to its rewarding conclusion.”

Relay for Life Event

Joanne experienced her 1st Relay for Life event for the Cancer foundation this year.  “What a FUN fundraiser to have homes ‘flocked’ to donate money to this utmost worthy cause.”  Clients would donate a fee to “flock” a family member or friend and then the recipient would have the “flock” removed for another donation and sent to another family member or friend, thus went the cycle.
We raised over $2,000 during a short “flocking” window.

Big Sisters

Joanne is going into her 4th year of partnering with a little sister.  “It means so much to these young children for an adult to take time out of their lives for them.”  The one hour a week Joanne spends one-on-one time with a little sister is “their” time to experience a friendship with fun filled activities.
